Step-by-step

Power Off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the side button and volume down button simultaneously until the sliders appear. Slide to power off the device completely.

Remove Pentalobe Screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 3.8 mm screws located on either side of the USB-C port.

Heat the Bottom Edge
2 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer to the bottom edge of the phone for 2 minutes to soften the display adhesive.

Apply Suction Handle
1 minAttach a suction cup to the lower half of the screen, just above the USB-C port.

Slice Display Adhesive
3 minPull up on the suction handle to create a gap, then insert an opening pick under the lower glass edge.

Unseal the Side Edges
4 minSlide the pick around the bottom and up the sides to slice through the remaining perimeter adhesive.

Open the Display Assembly
2 minGently swing the display open from the left edge like a book. Rest it supported against a stable object.

Disconnect the Battery
3 minUnscrew the lower connector cover plate using a Tri-point Y000 driver and use a spudger to disconnect the battery press connector.

Disconnect Display Cable
3 minRemove the display bracket screws, then detach the display flex cable using the flat end of a spudger.

Remove Taptic Engine Screws
3 minUnscrew the securing screws holding the lower speaker and Taptic Engine in place.

Extract the Loudspeaker
2 minLift the loudspeaker module out of the lower chassis using plastic tweezers.

Unclip Lower Microphone Assembly
3 minUse a spudger to carefully unseat the lower primary microphone flex cable from its housing.

Install Replacement Microphone Assembly
4 minAlign the new primary microphone and flex ribbon onto the lower chassis positioning pins and press firmly.

Reinstall Lower Speaker
3 minSet the loudspeaker back into position over the microphone flex assembly and tighten its retaining screws.

Reconnect Display and Battery
4 minAttach the display cable and battery connector to the logic board, then secure their metal covers.

Seal and Close Phone
3 minApply a new waterproof seal, align the display edges, and press firmly until it snaps into the frame.

Reinstall Pentalobe Screws
2 minInsert and tighten the two P2 Pentalobe screws next to the USB-C port.
