Step-by-step

Remove bottom pentalobe screws
2 minUse a P2 pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two screws located on the bottom edge near the USB-C port.

Heat lower screen edge
3 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer to the bottom edge of the phone for two minutes to soften the display adhesive.

Apply suction tool
1 minPlace a suction cup onto the lower portion of the screen assembly just above the home edge.

Slice display adhesive
5 minPry up gently with the suction cup and insert a thin plastic opening pick into the bottom gap. Slide the pick around the perimeter to slice the adhesive.

Open screen assembly
2 minSwing the screen open from the left side like a book cover. Take care not to strain the delicate ribbon cables on the right side.

Unscrew logic board shield
3 minRemove the Tri-Point screws securing the metal cover plate over the battery and display connectors.

Disconnect battery cable
2 minUse the flat end of a spudger to gently pop the battery press-connector straight up from its socket.

Disconnect display assembly
3 minDisconnect the display cable and ambient light sensor cable from the logic board using a spudger.

Unscrew TrueDepth module bracket
3 minRemove the retaining screws holding the upper metal bracket over the TrueDepth camera and Face ID array.

Detach TrueDepth camera cables
2 minCarefully pry up the press-connectors for the Face ID dot projector and infrared camera cables.

Lift out Face ID module
2 minUse precision tweezers to lift the TrueDepth camera module straight out of the top notch recess.

Insert new sensor module
3 minLower the replacement TrueDepth module into position and press the connectors firmly into their board sockets.

Reattach battery press connector
2 minAlign the battery connector over its socket and press down firmly until it clicks into place.

Secure metal cover brackets
4 minPosition the logic board cover shields and reinsert the Tri-Point screws to secure all connectors.

Reseal and close display
5 minApply new perimeter adhesive strips, align the top edge of the display, and gently press down around the edges to seal the phone.
