Step-by-step

Power off device
1 minPress and hold the side button and volume down button until the slider appears. Slide to completely power down the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Remove bottom screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 6.8 mm-long screws located on either side of the USB-C charging port.

Heat display edges
3 minApply a heated iOpener or heat gun to the lower edge of the screen for two minutes to soften the display adhesive.

Attach suction cup
1 minPlace a suction handle near the bottom edge of the glass display, making sure not to place it over the speaker grilles.

Slice bottom adhesive
3 minPull up gently on the suction cup to create a small gap, then insert an opening pick into the bottom edge.

Slice side adhesive
4 minSlide the opening pick around the bottom-left and right corners to cut through the waterproof perimeter seal.

Open display panel
2 minGently swing the screen open from the right side, like opening a book cover. Prop the display up using a box or stand to avoid strain on the flex cables.

Remove bracket screws
3 minUse a Tri-point Y000 screwdriver to remove the screws holding the logic board connector cover plate in place.

Disconnect battery
2 minUse the flat end of a spudger to pry the battery press connector straight up from its socket to cut power.

Disconnect screen flex
3 minDisconnect the display and digitizer flex cables from the logic board using a nylon spudger.

Remove loudspeaker screws
3 minUnbolt the Phillips screws securing the bottom loudspeaker assembly to the lower enclosure.

Extract loudspeaker
2 minGently pry up and remove the lower loudspeaker module to clear access to the bottom microphone components.

Unscrew microphone bracket
2 minRemove the retaining bracket screws holding the primary microphone gasket firmly against the inner chassis frame.

Remove lower microphone flex
4 minUse blunt tweezers and a spudger to carefully peel the lower microphone flex cable off the frame adhesive.

Install new microphone flex
4 minAlign the replacement microphone membrane and flex assembly inside the bottom bezel, pressing firmly to adhere.

Reassemble device
8 minReattach the loudspeaker, reconnect display and battery cables, replace the brackets, apply fresh perimeter adhesive, and close the screen.
