Step-by-step

Power off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the side button and volume down button until the slider appears. Slide to switch off the device completely.

Remove pentalobe screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 3.8 mm screws located on either side of the USB-C port.

Heat the bottom edge
2 minApply a heated iOpener or heat gun to the bottom perimeter of the phone for two minutes to soften the display adhesive.

Attach suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup onto the lower portion of the screen, positioned directly above the USB-C port.

2 minPull up firmly on the suction cup to create a narrow gap, then slide an opening pick under the display glass.

Slice perimeter adhesive
3 minSlide the pick carefully along the bottom, left, and right edges to separate the perimeter adhesive seal.

1 minGently swing the screen open from the left edge like a book to expose the internal components.

Remove battery shield screws
2 minUse a Tri-point Y000 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the metal battery connector shield.

Disconnect the battery
1 minUse the flat end of a spudger to pop the battery press connector straight up out of its socket.

Disconnect display cables
2 minPry up the display and digitizer flex cable connectors from the logic board, then lift the display clear.

Remove loudspeaker screws
2 minUnscrew the Y000 and Phillips screws retaining the bottom loudspeaker module to the chassis.

Lift out the loudspeaker
2 minGently pry up and extract the loudspeaker module from the bottom section of the enclosure.

Remove Taptic Engine screws
2 minUnscrew the fasteners securing the Taptic Engine to the lower frame.

Remove the Taptic Engine
2 minDisconnect the Taptic Engine ribbon cable with a spudger and lift the motor module out of the device.

Unscrew charging port bracket
3 minRemove all screws holding the USB-C port, mic brackets, and grounding clips to the bottom edge.

Warm the flex cable
2 minApply light heat to the exterior lower rear glass to loosen the adhesive backing the flex ribbon.

Pry up charging port flex
3 minCarefully work a thin opening pick under the USB-C assembly ribbon cable to separate it from the frame.

Install new charging port
3 minAlign the new USB-C port ribbon cable carefully in the chassis and press the adhesive backing firmly into place.

Secure port bracket screws
2 minReinstall and tighten all screws securing the USB-C port hardware and grounding brackets.

Reinstall Taptic Engine
2 minPlace the Taptic Engine back into position, reconnect its flex connector, and tighten its mounting screws.

Reinstall loudspeaker module
2 minLower the loudspeaker assembly back into the frame and secure it with its dedicated screws.

Apply new display adhesive
4 minClean off old adhesive using 99% isopropyl alcohol, then apply a new pre-cut adhesive gasket along the frame edges.

Reconnect display and battery
2 minSnap the display flex cables back onto the logic board, followed by reconnecting the battery press connector.

Reinstall cable cover shield
2 minPlace the metal connector shield over the cables and secure it with the Y000 screws.

Close and seal display
2 minAlign the top edge of the screen with the phone frame, then press firmly down the sides to set the adhesive seal.

Reinstall pentalobe screws
1 minThread and tighten the two P2 Pentalobe screws into the bottom edge near the USB-C port.
