   Power off the device

   Press and hold the side button and volume down button simultaneously until the slider appears. Slide to turn off the iPhone completely.

   Remove the bottom Pentalobe screws

   Use a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 3.8 mm screws located on either side of the USB-C port.

   Heat the back glass

   Apply a heat gun or hair dryer to the lower edge of the back glass for two minutes to soften the perimeter adhesive.

   Attach suction cup and lift

   Place a suction cup on the lower portion of the back glass and pull up gently to create a small gap near the USB-C port.

   Slice the perimeter adhesive

   Insert an opening pick into the gap and slice carefully along the bottom, right, and top edges of the rear glass.

   Open the back glass

   Swing the back glass open toward the right side like a book cover. Do not attempt to pull it entirely away yet.

   Remove the battery connector bracket

   Unscrew the Tri-point Y000 screws securing the lower metal bracket and lift it off with tweezers.

   Disconnect the back glass assembly

   Use the pointed end of a spudger to pop the back glass cable connector off its socket on the logic board.

   Unscrew the logic board bracket

   Remove the Tri-point Y000 screws holding down the upper logic board shield bracket and remove the bracket.

    Disconnect the volume flex cable

    Pry the volume button flex connector straight up from the logic board using a plastic spudger.

    Remove the volume button bracket screws

    Unscrew the small Phillips screws securing the internal metal volume button retention bracket along the inner frame wall.

    Extract the volume button retaining bracket

    Grasp the metal retention bracket with precision tweezers and lift it out of the chassis.

    Pry up the volume flex assembly

    Slide a thin opening pick or spudger beneath the volume button flex cable to separate its light adhesive from the frame.

    Inspect and remove old button switches

    Lift the flex cable array and switch contacts out of the side frame. Clean any remaining adhesive residue with isopropyl alcohol.

    Install the new volume button flex cable

    Position the new flex cable assembly into the sidewall recess, pressing the physical switch contacts firmly against the button cutouts.

    Secure the volume button bracket

    Reinstall the metal retention bracket over the flex cable and tighten the small Phillips screws until snug.

    Reconnect the volume flex cable

    Align the flex cable connector with the socket on the logic board and press down firmly until it snaps into place.

    Apply replacement back glass adhesive

    Clean the frame edges with isopropyl alcohol and lay down a fresh pre-cut perimeter adhesive strip.

    Reconnect the back glass cable

    Snap the back glass connector back onto the logic board and reinstall the metal protective bracket with its Y000 screws.

    Close the back glass and install screws

    Align the back glass with the housing, press firmly along all four edges to seal it, and reinstall the two P2 Pentalobe screws.
