Step-by-step

Power off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the side button and volume up button simultaneously, then slide to power down the device completely.

Remove the bottom pentalobe screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe driver to remove the two 3.8 mm screws located on either side of the USB-C port.

Heat the lower rear glass
3 minApply a heated iOpener or heat gun to the bottom edge of the back glass for two minutes to soften the perimeter adhesive.

Attach a suction handle
2 minPlace a suction cup onto the lower third of the back glass and pull up gently to create a slight gap at the bottom seam.

Insert an opening pick
2 minInsert the tip of a plastic opening pick into the gap created beneath the lower glass edge.

Slice the edge adhesive
4 minSlide the opening pick carefully along the bottom, left, and right edges to cut through the waterproof adhesive tape.

Open the back glass panel
2 minGently swing the back glass open toward the right side of the phone frame, resting it flat next to the body.

Unscrew the lower bracket plate
3 minUse a Tri-point Y000 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the metal connector shield.

Disconnect the battery connector
2 minUse the flat end of a plastic spudger to pry the battery press connector straight up from its socket.

Disconnect the back glass ribbon cable
2 minPry the back glass ribbon cable connector free from the board and set the rear glass assembly aside.

Unscrew the loudspeaker assembly
3 minRemove the screws securing the loudspeaker at the bottom of the device chassis.

Lift out the loudspeaker
2 minUse precision tweezers to lift the loudspeaker module up and out of the lower housing.

Unscrew the Taptic Engine
3 minRemove the retaining screws anchoring the Taptic Engine vibrator unit to the case.

Remove the Taptic Engine module
2 minDisconnect the Taptic Engine press connector with a spudger and remove the module from the phone.

Unscrew the USB-C port hardware
4 minRemove all screws holding the USB-C port assembly and flex cable grounding brackets to the lower frame.

Unstick the charging port flex cable
3 minApply a drop of 99% isopropyl alcohol along the flex cable and use a flat opening tool to gently unstick it from the chassis.

Extract the old charging port assembly
2 minLift the USB-C port port, microphones, and attached flex ribbon completely out of the phone body.

Position the replacement USB-C port
4 minAlign the new charging port in the frame recess and firmly press down the flex ribbon to adhere it to the enclosure.
