Overview
Step-by-step
- 1
Power off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the side button and volume down button until the power off slider appears. Slide to power off completely.
- 2
Remove lower enclosure screws
2 minUse a Pentalobe P2 screwdriver to remove the two 3.8 mm screws located on either side of the USB-C charging port.
- 3
Apply heat to lower edge
3 minUse a heat gun or hair dryer on low heat to warm the bottom edge of the display for two minutes to soften the perimeter adhesive.
- 4
Attach suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup onto the lower third of the display assembly, just above the USB-C port, and press firmly to seal.
- 5
Separate display lower edge
3 minPull up on the suction cup to create a slight gap between the screen and frame, then insert a plastic prying tool into the gap.
- 6
Slice perimeter adhesive
4 minSlide the plastic prying tool around the bottom, left, and right edges to cut through the display adhesive.
- 7
Open display assembly
2 minGently swing the screen open toward the right side like a book cover. Lean it against a steady object so it does not strain the cables.
- 8
Remove connector plate screws
3 minUse a Tri-point Y000 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the lower connector metal cover plate.
- 9
Remove metal connector cover
2 minUse tweezers to lift the metal cover plate out of the device chassis and place it in a safe spot.
- 10
Disconnect battery cable
2 minUse the flat end of a spudger to pry the battery press connector straight up from its motherboard socket.
- 11
Disconnect display assembly cable
2 minPry the display cable connector straight up from the logic board to completely free the display.
- 12
Peel back battery stretch release tabs
3 minUse precision tweezers to peel back the black pull-tab tips from the top and bottom edges of the battery.
- 13
Pull battery adhesive strips
5 minSlowly pull each stretch-release adhesive strip flat and horizontal away from the battery until the strip fully releases.
- 14
Remove old battery
3 minLift the battery out of the phone enclosure. If adhesive remains stuck, apply a few drops of high-concentration isopropyl alcohol under the battery edge and wait two minutes.
- 15
Install new adhesive strips
3 minApply replacement adhesive strips to the back of the new battery, making sure the pull tabs wrap around the edges correctly.
- 16
Position new battery
2 minSet the new battery into the rear housing and press down firmly across its surface to secure the adhesive.
- 17
Reconnect display and battery cables
3 minAlign and press the display connector and battery connector back onto their logic board sockets until they snap into place.
- 18
Reinstall connector cover and bottom screws
4 minPlace the metal bracket back over the connectors, tighten its screws, lower the display flat onto the housing, and install the two bottom Pentalobe screws.
