Step-by-step

Power off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the side button and either volume button, then slide to power off the device completely.

Remove the pentalobe screws
2 minUnscrew the two 3.8 mm P2 Pentalobe screws located on either side of the USB-C charging port.

Heat the lower edge
2 minApply a heated iOpener or hair dryer to the bottom edge of the screen for two minutes to soften the adhesive.

Attach a suction handle
1 minPlace a suction handle near the bottom edge of the display, taking care not to place it on the glass curve.

Insert an opening pick
2 minPull up on the suction handle to create a gap between the screen and frame, then insert an opening pick into the gap.

Slice perimeter adhesive
3 minSlide the pick around the bottom and sides of the frame to cut through the display adhesive.

Open the screen
1 minSwing the screen open from the left edge like a book cover and prop it up against a sturdy object.

Unscrew battery cable cover
2 minRemove the Tri-Point Y000 screws securing the logic board shield cover over the battery press connector.

Disconnect the battery
1 minUse the tip of a spudger to pop the battery connector straight up out of its socket.

Disconnect the display cables
2 minDisconnect the display cable and ambient sensor assembly cables from the main logic board.

Unscrew loudspeaker assembly
2 minRemove the four Phillips and Tri-Point screws securing the bottom speaker module to the frame.

Remove old loudspeaker
2 minInsert a spudger underneath the edge of the loudspeaker assembly and lift it out of the chassis.

Insert new loudspeaker
2 minLower the replacement loudspeaker into the lower corner of the frame and press gently until it seats flush.

Secure speaker screws
2 minReinstall and tighten the four screws to lock the replacement speaker firmly in place.
