- Disconnect the battery and rear glass ribbon cables immediately upon opening to prevent electrical shorts.

Step-by-step

Power down the device
1 minPress and hold the side button and volume down button simultaneously until the sliders appear. Slide to power off the iPhone completely before starting.

Remove the Pentalobe screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 3.8 mm screws located on either side of the USB-C charging port.

Heat the rear glass
2 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer to the bottom edge and sides of the rear glass for 2 minutes to soften the waterproof adhesive.

Attach the suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup onto the lower third of the rear glass, just above the USB-C port.

Insert an opening pick
2 minPull up on the suction cup to create a small gap at the bottom edge, then slide an opening pick into the seam.

Slice the rear glass adhesive
3 minGently slide the opening pick along the bottom and right edges of the phone to separate the perimeter adhesive.

Open the rear glass
2 minSwing the rear glass open toward the left side like a book. Rest it flat against a supportive object so you do not strain the flex cables.

Remove the lower bracket screws
2 minUse a Tri-point Y000 screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the lower connector cover bracket.

Lift off the lower bracket
1 minUse precision tweezers to lift the lower metal bracket off the logic board and set it aside.

Disconnect the rear glass cable
2 minUse the flat end of a spudger to gently pry the rear glass flex cable straight up from its socket.

Unscrew the loudspeaker
3 minRemove the four Tri-point Y000 screws securing the bottom loudspeaker module to the frame.

Remove the loudspeaker
2 minInsert a spudger under the top edge of the loudspeaker and gently lift it out of the chassis.

Disconnect the Taptic Engine
1 minPry up the Taptic Engine flex connector from the logic board using the pointed end of a spudger.

Remove the Taptic Engine
3 minUnscrew the three Phillips screws securing the Taptic Engine, then lift it out of the enclosure.

Remove the port bracket screws
2 minRemove the two Tri-point Y000 screws holding the charging port flex connector cover to the logic board.

Disconnect the charging port flex
1 minPry the charging port flex connector straight up off the main logic board using a spudger.

Unscrew the USB-C port assembly
3 minRemove the three Phillips screws securing the USB-C port housing to the bottom edge of the frame.

Remove the charging port assembly
3 minGently peel the lower microphones and the USB-C port assembly off the frame adhesive using tweezers and remove it.
