Step-by-step
- 1
Power down the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the side button and either volume button until the power slider appears. Slide to turn off the iPhone completely.

Remove bottom Pentalobe screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two screws located on either side of the USB-C port.

Heat the lower back glass
3 minApply a heat gun on low heat to the bottom edge of the back glass for two minutes to soften the perimeter adhesive.

Attach suction handle
1 minPlace a suction cup onto the lower section of the back glass, taking care to avoid the camera bump.

Insert opening pick
2 minPull up on the suction handle to create a narrow gap, then slide an opening pick into the bottom seam.

Slice perimeter adhesive
4 minSlide the pick around the edges of the back glass to cut through the internal adhesive seal.

2 minGently swing the back glass panel open to the right side of the device frame.

2 minUse a Tri-point Y000 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the lower connector bracket.

3 minRemove the retaining screws holding down the Taptic Engine shield in the lower enclosure.

2 minDisconnect the Taptic Engine ribbon cable with a spudger and lift the module out of the frame.

Unscrew loudspeaker housing
3 minRemove the screws holding the loudspeaker assembly to the lower chassis.

Remove loudspeaker assembly
2 minInsert a spudger under the loudspeaker module and lift it clear of the device.

Disconnect USB-C flex connector
2 minUse a spudger to disconnect the USB-C charging port flex cable from its socket on the logic board.

Remove charging port screws
3 minRemove the screws securing the USB-C port bracket and housing to the bottom perimeter of the frame.

Peel up USB-C flex assembly
3 minCarefully slide an opening pick beneath the charging port ribbon cable to separate it from the chassis adhesive.

Install new USB-C charging flex
4 minPosition the new charging port assembly into the lower frame and press the port into alignment.

Reassemble components and seal
8 minReinstall the loudspeaker, Taptic Engine, and flex brackets before applying fresh back glass adhesive.
