Step-by-step

Power off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the side button and volume down button until the power slider appears, then slide to turn off the phone.

Remove the pentalobe bottom screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 1.5 mm screws located next to the USB-C port.

Heat the rear glass edges
2 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer around the perimeter of the rear glass for two minutes to soften the internal adhesive.

Attach the suction cup
1 minPress a suction cup firmly onto the lower section of the rear glass near the bottom edge.

Slice the perimeter adhesive
4 minPull up on the suction cup to create a gap, insert an opening pick, and slide it around the edges to cut the seal.

Open the rear glass
2 minGently swing the rear glass open toward the right side like a book, taking care not to strain the flex cable.

Remove the lower connector bracket
2 minUse a Tri-point Y000 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the metal bracket over the battery and glass connectors.

Disconnect the battery flex cable
1 minPry the battery press connector straight up from its socket on the logic board using the flat end of a spudger.

Disconnect the rear glass cable
2 minUse a spudger to disconnect the rear glass flex connector, then set the rear glass panel aside.

Unscrew the loudspeaker assembly
3 minRemove the retaining screws holding the bottom loudspeaker assembly to the phone frame.

Remove the loudspeaker
2 minLift the loudspeaker out of the bottom cavity of the device using tweezers.

Unscrew and remove the Taptic Engine
3 minRemove the mounting screws securing the Taptic Engine, disconnect its flex cable, and lift it out.

Unfasten the microphone and port assembly
3 minRemove all screws securing the lower microphone housing and USB-C port flex assembly to the frame.

Unseat the bottom microphone flex cable
4 minApply a drop of 99% isopropyl alcohol around the microphone rubber gasket, then carefully pry the microphone and cable out with a spudger.

Install the replacement microphone assembly
3 minPosition the new microphone and USB-C flex assembly into the chassis, pressing the microphone into its rubber boot.

Reinstall internal components
5 minSecure the Taptic Engine and loudspeaker back into place using their designated screws.

Reconnect cables and seal the phone
5 minApply a fresh adhesive seal to the frame, reconnect the rear glass and battery cables, reinstall the bracket, and press the rear glass closed.
