Step-by-step

Remove Pentalobe Screws
2 minPower off the device and remove the two 7.7 mm P2 Pentalobe screws located at the bottom edge near the USB-C port.

Heat Display Frame
3 minApply a heated iOpener or heat gun around the perimeter of the front screen for two minutes to soften the waterproof seal.

Apply Suction Cup
1 minAttach a suction cup near the bottom edge of the glass display, just above the USB-C port.

Slice Display Adhesive
4 minPull up on the suction cup to create a gap, then insert an opening pick and slide it around the lower and side edges.

Open Display Panel
2 minSwing the left side of the screen open like a book cover, taking care not to strain the internal ribbon cables attached along the right edge.

Unscrew Logic Board Shield
3 minRemove the six Y000 tri-point screws securing the metal logic board cover plate.

Remove Logic Board Shield
1 minUse tweezers to lift the metal shield out of the phone chassis and set it aside.

Disconnect Battery Cable
2 minPry the battery press connector straight up off its socket on the logic board using a plastic spudger.

Disconnect Display Flex Cables
2 minDisconnect the screen display flex cable and the ambient light sensor cable from the logic board.

Remove Display Assembly
1 minLift the display assembly away from the phone body completely and place it on a clean surface.

Unscrew Face ID Shield
2 minRemove the two Y000 tri-point screws securing the metal bracket over the TrueDepth Face ID camera array.

Remove Face ID Shield
1 minLift the metal sensor bracket off the top of the chassis with tweezers.

Disconnect Face ID Cables
2 minPry up the two TrueDepth camera ribbon cable connectors from the top of the logic board.

Remove Face ID Module
3 minGently lift the TrueDepth camera and sensor module out of its plastic recess in the frame.

Install Replacement Module
3 minPlace the new TrueDepth Face ID sensor assembly into the chassis recess and press the two ribbon connectors firmly into their sockets.

Secure Face ID Shield
2 minPosition the metal shield over the TrueDepth assembly and tighten the two Y000 tri-point screws.

Reconnect Display Cables
2 minAlign and press the screen flex cables into their respective board sockets until they snap into place.

Reconnect Battery Cable
1 minPress the battery connector directly onto its socket to restore internal power connections.

Reinstall Logic Board Shield
3 minPlace the logic board cover plate back over the connectors and fasten the six tri-point screws.

Close Display Frame
4 minAlign the screen edges with the phone body, press firmly down until it clicks flush, and reinstall the two Pentalobe screws.
