Step-by-step

Power off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the side button along with either volume button until the power slider appears. Slide to power off the device completely.

Remove pentalobe screws
2 minUnscrew the two 6.8 mm P2 pentalobe screws located on the bottom edge of the iPhone near the Lightning port.

Heat the lower rear glass
2 minApply a heated iOpener or heat gun to the bottom edge of the back glass for two minutes to soften the adhesive.

Attach suction handle
1 minPlace a suction handle near the bottom edge of the rear glass panel and press firmly to create a seal.

Create opening pick gap
2 minPull up on the suction handle to create a small gap between the rear glass and the metal frame, then insert an opening pick.

Slice perimeter adhesive
3 minSlide the opening pick along the bottom edge and up both sides to cut through the waterproof adhesive layer.

Open rear glass panel
1 minGently swing the rear glass open toward the right side like the front cover of a book.

Unscrew lower bracket cover
2 minRemove the two Y000 tri-point screws holding the lower metal connector bracket in place.

Remove lower bracket cover
1 minUse precision tweezers to lift the metal shield off the logic board connectors.

Disconnect battery flex cable
1 minUse the pointed end of a spudger to gently pry the battery connector straight up from its socket.

Detach rear glass assembly
2 minDisconnect the remaining rear glass flex cable and carefully set the back glass panel aside.

Unscrew Taptic Engine bracket
2 minRemove the two Y000 screws securing the protective bracket over the Taptic Engine cable.

Remove Taptic Engine bracket
1 minLift the small protective bracket out of the phone enclosure using tweezers.

Disconnect Taptic Engine press-connector
1 minPry the Taptic Engine flex cable straight up off the board using a spudger.

Unscrew Taptic Engine fasteners
2 minRemove the two Phillips #00 screws holding the Taptic Engine assembly to the bottom frame.

Lift out old Taptic Engine
1 minUse tweezers or your fingers to lift the original Taptic Engine out of the lower chassis.

Insert replacement Taptic Engine
2 minPlace the new Taptic Engine into the lower recess, aligning its screw holes with the frame mounts.

Reassemble device connectors and seals
5 minSecure all screws and brackets, apply new rear glass adhesive, reconnect flex cables, and close the chassis.
