Step-by-step

Power off the iPhone
1 minTurn off the device completely by holding the side button and volume up button, then sliding to power off.

Remove bottom pentalobe screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 6.8 mm screws located on either side of the Lightning port.

Heat the back glass lower edge
2 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer to the bottom perimeter of the back glass for 2 minutes to soften the internal adhesive seal.

Attach suction cup to rear glass
1 minPlace a suction cup on the lower third of the back glass, just above the Lightning port.

Create a gap with opening pick
2 minPull up firmly on the suction cup to create a thin gap between the frame and glass, then insert an opening pick.

Slice perimeter adhesive
3 minSlide the opening pick carefully along the bottom and right edges of the phone to cut through the water-resistant seal.

Open the back glass
2 minGently swing the back glass open to the left side like a book, taking care not to strain the internal ribbon cables.

Unscrew lower connector bracket
2 minUse a Tri-point Y000 screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the metal shield over the battery connector.

Disconnect the battery
1 minPry the battery connector straight up from its socket on the logic board using the pointed end of a spudger.

Remove speaker retaining screws
3 minUnscrew the Phillips #000 and Tri-point Y000 screws securing the bottom loudspeaker housing to the frame.

Remove the failed loudspeaker
2 minInsert a flat spudger under the speaker module and lift it up and out of the phone enclosure.

Position new speaker module
2 minSet the replacement loudspeaker into the lower frame cutout and press lightly until it sits flush.

Secure the speaker screws
2 minReinstall and tighten all original screws holding the loudspeaker assembly in place.

Reconnect battery and metal shield
2 minPress the battery connector down into its socket, then reinstall the metal bracket and its Y000 screws.

Seal and fasten back glass
3 minAlign the back glass with the housing, press firmly along all edges to seat the seal, and reinstall the two bottom P2 screws.
