Step-by-step

Power off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the side button and either volume button, then slide the screen toggle to turn off the iPhone completely.

Remove the bottom Pentalobe screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 6.8 mm screws located on the bottom edge of the device.

Heat the front glass edge
2 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer to the lower edge of the phone for two minutes to soften the display adhesive.

Apply a suction cup
1 minAttach a suction cup tool to the lower half of the front display screen, just above the Lightning port.

Slice the lower adhesive seal
3 minPull up on the suction cup to create a small gap and insert a plastic opening pick beneath the screen.

Slice the side adhesive seals
4 minSlide the plastic pick carefully along the left and right edges to separate the remaining display adhesive.

Open the display assembly
1 minSwing the screen open from the right edge toward the left, resting it flat like a book cover.

Remove the battery cover screws
3 minUse a Tri-point Y000 screwdriver to remove the three screws securing the main logic board shield cover.

Remove the logic board shield
1 minUse tweezers to lift the metal shield plate out of the phone chassis and set it aside.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minPry the battery connector straight up from its logic board socket using the pointed end of a spudger.

Disconnect the display cable
1 minUse your spudger to gently disconnect the display ribbon cable connector from the board.

Remove the front screen assembly
1 minLift the entire display assembly off the rear case to clear space for the upper camera module repair.

Remove the TrueDepth bracket screws
2 minUnscrew the Y000 screws holding the metal retention bracket over the TrueDepth camera module.

Remove the TrueDepth bracket
1 minLift the metal bracket away with tweezers to reveal the Face ID sensor press connectors.

Disconnect the Face ID module
2 minPry the two TrueDepth camera press connectors up from their logic board sockets using a spudger.

Extract the TrueDepth camera assembly
2 minGently lift the TrueDepth camera and infrared projector module out of the top notch housing.

Insert the replacement TrueDepth module
2 minPlace the new Face ID TrueDepth camera module precisely into the notch recess inside the frame.

Reconnect the camera connectors
2 minAlign and press the two module ribbon connectors directly down onto their logic board sockets until they snap.
