Step-by-step

Power Off Device
1 minPress and hold the side button and either volume button, then slide to power off. Ensure the phone is completely powered down before beginning.

2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 6.8 mm screws on the bottom edge of the iPhone.

Heat Bottom Edge
2 minApply a heated iOpener or heat gun to the lower edge of the display for two minutes to soften the waterproof adhesive.

Attach Suction Handle
1 minPlace a suction cup on the lower half of the front glass, just above the Lightning port, and press down to seal.

Slice Screen Adhesive
4 minPull up on the suction handle to create a slight gap, then insert an opening pick into the bottom edge and slice around the perimeter.

Open Display Assembly
2 minSwing the display open from the right side like a book cover, resting it against a sturdy object to avoid straining the display cables.

Unscrew Logic Board Shield
3 minUse a Y000 tri-point driver to remove the screws securing the lower metal logic board connector cover.

Disconnect Battery Cable
1 minUse the pointed end of a spudger to pry the battery flex cable straight up from its socket on the logic board.

Unscrew Taptic Engine Bracket
3 minRemove the tri-point and Phillips screws securing the protective metal bracket over the Taptic Engine.

Disconnect Taptic Engine Cable
1 minPry the Taptic Engine ribbon connector straight up off its logic board socket using a plastic spudger.

Remove Mounting Screws
2 minUnscrew the remaining Phillips and standoff screws fastening the Taptic Engine to the lower frame.

Lift Out Taptic Engine
1 minUse tweezers to carefully lift the Taptic Engine up and out of the rear enclosure.
