Step-by-step
- 1
Turn off the device
1 minPress and hold the side button and either volume button, then slide to power off. Ensure the screen is completely black before continuing.

Remove bottom pentalobe screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe driver to remove the two 6.8 mm screws located on both sides of the charging port.

Heat the lower glass edge
2 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer to the bottom edge of the phone for two minutes to soften the display adhesive.

Attach suction cup
1 minPress a suction cup firmly onto the lower portion of the front screen, directly above the charging port.

Create an opening gap
2 minPull up on the suction cup handle to create a small gap between the glass screen and the frame.

Slice lower frame adhesive
2 minInsert a plastic opening pick into the gap and slowly slide it along the bottom edge to slice through the adhesive seal.

Unseal side edges
3 minSlide the pick along the left and right edges, stopping before the top edge to avoid damaging the sensor array.

Remove loudspeaker module
2 minWedge a spudger under the bottom speaker module and lift it out of the chassis.

Disconnect and remove Taptic Engine
3 minUnscrew the Taptic Engine brackets, disconnect its flex connector, and remove the vibration unit.

Pry up lower microphone flex
3 minApply isopropyl alcohol to the mic housing, then carefully pry up the bottom microphone module from the lower frame.

Install replacement microphone flex
3 minAlign the new primary microphone in the bottom channel, press the flex cable into place, and press down firmly.
