Step-by-step
- 1
Power off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the side button and volume down button, then slide to power off completely.

Remove the bottom pentalobe screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 6.8 mm screws located on either side of the Lightning port.

Heat the bottom edge of the display
2 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer to the lower edge of the phone for two minutes to soften the waterproof adhesive.

Attach the suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup on the lower portion of the front glass screen, just above the home edge.

Slice the lower adhesive seal
3 minPull up on the suction cup to create a small gap, then insert an opening pick into the bottom seam.

Slice the side and top adhesive
3 minSlide the opening pick carefully up the right and left sides to break the remaining display seal.

Open the display panel
1 minSwing the display open from the right side to the left, like a book, taking care not to strain the fragile flex cables.

Unscrew the lower connector bracket
3 minUse a Tri-point Y000 screwdriver to remove the six screws securing the battery and display cable cover bracket.

Remove the metal cover bracket
1 minUse tweezers to carefully lift and remove the metal shield bracket from the logic board.

Disconnect the battery flex cable
1 minPry the battery connector straight up from its socket on the logic board using a plastic spudger.

Disconnect the display and sensor cables
2 minUse the spudger to disconnect the display flex cable and ambient light sensor connectors.

Remove the display assembly
1 minLift the entire display assembly off the rear case and place it in a safe, clean spot.

Unscrew the Taptic Engine retaining screws
2 minUse a Y000 tri-point screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the Taptic Engine assembly to the case.

Disconnect the Taptic Engine cable
1 minGently pop the Taptic Engine flex cable connector up from its socket using a plastic spudger.

Remove the old Taptic Engine
1 minUse tweezers or your fingers to lift the Taptic Engine up and out of the lower chassis.

Install the new Taptic Engine
3 minPosition the new Taptic Engine into the chassis cavity, connect its flex cable, and reinsert all mounting screws securely.
