Step-by-step
- 1
Power off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the side button and either volume button, then slide to power down the device completely.

Remove lower pentalobe screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 6.8 mm screws located on either side of the Lightning port.

Heat the rear glass edge
2 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer around the outer perimeter of the back glass for two minutes to soften the adhesive seal.

Attach suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup onto the lower third of the rear glass panel, just above the Lightning port.

Create an opening gap
2 minPull up firmly on the suction cup to create a small separation gap between the rear glass and the aluminum frame.

Insert opening pick
1 minInsert the tip of a plastic opening pick into the gap at the bottom edge of the phone.

Slice bottom adhesive
2 minSlide the opening pick back and forth along the bottom edge to slice through the perimeter adhesive seal.

Slice left edge adhesive
2 minGuide the opening pick along the left edge of the rear glass, keeping the insertion depth under 3 mm.

Slice right edge adhesive
2 minSlide the pick along the right edge of the frame to separate the remaining side adhesive.

Slice top edge adhesive
2 minGently maneuver the pick across the top edge, taking extreme care around the microphone and camera housing.

Open back glass panel
1 minSwing the back glass open toward the right side like a book cover to reveal the internal ribbon cables.

Remove bracket screws
2 minUse a Tri-Point Y000 screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the lower cable connector bracket.

Remove connector bracket
1 minUse precision tweezers to lift the metal cover bracket straight off the logic board.

Disconnect the battery
1 minPry the battery press connector straight up from its socket on the logic board using a spudger.

Disconnect wireless charging cable
1 minUse the spudger to detach the wireless charging coil press connector from the logic board.

Remove rear glass assembly
1 minLift the rear glass assembly clear off the enclosure frame and place it on a clean work surface.

Unseat defective charging coil
4 minUse a spudger to carefully peel the magnetic wireless charging coil flex assembly away from the inside of the back glass.

Install replacement charging coil
3 minAlign the new wireless charging coil and MagSafe magnet array onto the interior back glass surface and press firmly.
