Step-by-step

Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the side button and volume down button, then slide the screen toggle to turn off the iPhone completely.

Remove pentalobe screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 6.8 mm screws located on either side of the Lightning port.

Heat the lower edge
2 minApply a heated pad or hair dryer to the bottom edge of the phone for two minutes to soften the display adhesive.

Attach suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup on the lower third of the front display, avoiding the curved edges.

Slice lower adhesive
3 minPull up firmly on the suction cup to create a small gap, then insert an opening pick under the front glass.

Unseal display perimeter
4 minSlide the opening pick around the bottom, left, and right edges to cut through the perimeter water-resistance seal.

Open the display
2 minSwing the display open from the right side to the left like a book, resting it against a sturdy object to avoid straining cables.

Unscrew logic board cover
3 minUse a Tri-point Y000 driver to remove the three screws securing the lower connector cover bracket.

Remove connector cover
1 minUse tweezers to lift the metal connector cover off the logic board and set it aside.

Disconnect battery cable
1 minUse a plastic spudger to pry the battery connector straight up from its socket on the logic board.

Disconnect display cables
2 minPry up the screen display connector and touch cable to completely detach the display assembly.

Remove loudspeaker screws
3 minRemove the four Phillips and Tri-point screws securing the bottom loudspeaker assembly to the chassis.

Pry up the loudspeaker
2 minInsert a flat opening tool under the top edge of the loudspeaker and gently pry it out of the lower frame.

Install new loudspeaker
2 minPosition the replacement speaker module into the lower housing, pressing gently until it seats flush.

Secure loudspeaker screws
3 minReinstall and tighten the four screws holding the bottom speaker in place.
