Step-by-step

Power down the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the side button and volume down button simultaneously until the sliders appear. Slide to power off completely.

Remove bottom pentalobe screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 6.8 mm screws located on either side of the Lightning port.

Heat the lower edge
2 minApply a heated iOpener or heat gun to the bottom edge of the back glass for two minutes to soften the adhesive.

Attach suction handle
1 minPlace a suction handle onto the lower portion of the rear glass panel, just above the Lightning port.

Slice the perimeter adhesive
5 minPull up on the suction handle to create a small gap and insert an opening pick under the glass edge. Slide the pick around the perimeter to sever the adhesive.

Open the rear glass
2 minGently swing the back glass open toward the right side like a book cover. Do not pull it completely away yet.

Unscrew the battery bracket
3 minUse a Tri-point Y000 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the lower metal connector cover plate.

Disconnect the battery cable
2 minUse the pointed end of a spudger to gently lever the battery press connector straight up from its motherboard socket.

Unscrew the Taptic Engine
3 minRemove the Phillips screws securing the Taptic Engine to the lower frame near the bottom speaker.

Remove the Taptic Engine
2 minDisconnect the Taptic Engine flex cable and lift the vibration motor module out of the phone body using tweezers.

Unscrew the loudspeaker module
3 minRemove the retaining screws holding the lower speaker enclosure to the frame.

Lift out the loudspeaker
2 minInsert a spudger under the top edge of the speaker module and lift it out of the chassis.

Unfasten the microphone bracket
3 minRemove the small screws securing the primary microphone assembly and acoustic rubber gasket near the lower edge.

Pry up the primary microphone
3 minGently slip a flat spudger under the primary microphone element to peel it away from the bottom frame adhesive.

Clean the bottom microphone port
2 minDip a cotton swab into 99% isopropyl alcohol and clear away any lint or leftover adhesive from the microphone mesh grill.

Position the new microphone module
3 minAlign the replacement microphone into the lower housing cavity and press firmly to set it in place.

Reinstall loudspeaker and Taptic Engine
4 minLower the loudspeaker and Taptic Engine back into place and securely fasten all saved screws.

Apply new adhesive and close phone
5 minReconnect the battery, apply a fresh perimeter adhesive gasket, and press the back glass firmly closed.
