Step-by-step

Power off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the side button along with either volume button, then slide the screen slider to power off.

Apply tape over broken glass
3 minCover the entire rear glass with overlapping strips of clear packing tape to keep shattered fragments intact.

Remove pentalobe bottom screws
2 minUnscrew the two 6.8 mm P2 Pentalobe screws located on either side of the Lightning charging port.

Heat the lower edge of the back glass
2 minApply a heated iOpener or heat gun to the bottom edge of the back glass for two minutes to soften the adhesive.

Attach suction handle
1 minPlace a suction handle near the lower edge of the back panel and press down firmly to secure a seal.

Insert opening pick
3 minPull up firmly on the suction handle to create a slight gap, then slide a plastic opening pick under the glass panel.

Slice lower edge adhesive
2 minSlide the pick back and forth along the bottom edge of the phone to cut through the perimeter seal.

Slice left side adhesive
2 minGuide the opening pick around the bottom-left corner and slide it continuously up toward the top edge.

Slice top edge adhesive
2 minContinue sliding the pick along the top edge near the camera island, taking care not to insert it deeper than 3 mm.

Slice right edge adhesive carefully
2 minSlide the pick down the right edge, keeping it shallower than 3 mm to prevent damaging the internal flex cable.

Open the back glass panel
2 minSwing the rear glass panel open toward the right side like a book and prop it against a stable object.

Unscrew the connector bracket
2 minUse a Y000 screwdriver to remove the two tri-point screws securing the lower connector bracket.

Disconnect the rear glass connector
2 minPry the back glass ribbon cable directly up from its socket on the logic board using the flat end of a spudger.

Clean adhesive off aluminum frame
5 minRemove the damaged glass and use isopropyl alcohol with a spudger to clear away all remaining adhesive residue from the frame.

Apply new perimeter adhesive strip
3 minPeel the backing from a pre-cut back glass adhesive gasket and carefully press it into place along the chassis perimeter.

Connect the replacement back glass
2 minAlign and press the ribbon cable connector of the new back glass panel onto the logic board until it snaps into place.

Reinstall bracket and seal back glass
3 minScrew the bracket back in, align the rear panel onto the frame, and firmly press around all edges to activate the adhesive.

Reinstall pentalobe screws
2 minReinsert and tighten the two P2 Pentalobe screws flanking the Lightning port to lock the assembly closed.
