Step-by-step

Unscrew lower Pentalobe screws
2 minRemove the two 6.8 mm P2 Pentalobe screws located on either side of the Lightning port.

Heat lower screen edge
2 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer to the bottom edge of the phone for two minutes to soften the display adhesive.

Attach suction cup tool
1 minPlace a suction cup on the lower glass, just above the bottom edge of the display.

Slice display adhesive
4 minPull up on the suction cup to create a small gap, then insert an opening pick and slide it around the bottom and sides.

Open display like a book
1 minSwing the screen open from the right edge toward the left, leaning it against a support block.

Unscrew display connector bracket
2 minRemove the three Y000 tri-point screws securing the lower bracket cover plate over the battery and display connectors.

Remove connector cover plate
1 minUse precision tweezers to lift the metal shield off the logic board and set it aside.

Disconnect battery press connector
1 minUse the flat end of a spudger to pry the battery connector straight up out of its socket.

Disconnect display cables
2 minPry the display cable and digitizer press connectors away from the board using the spudger.

Separate screen from enclosure
1 minLift the display assembly completely off the phone body and place it in a safe spot.

Unscrew Taptic Engine retaining bracket
2 minRemove the two Y000 screws securing the metal bracket over the Taptic Engine cable connection.

Disconnect Taptic Engine cable
1 minPop the Taptic Engine press connector up off the lower board using a spudger.

Unscrew Taptic Engine mounting screws
2 minRemove the standoff and Phillips screws securing the Taptic Engine housing to the bottom chassis.

Remove Taptic Engine module
1 minGently lift the Taptic Engine up and out of the lower rear case.
