Safety

Step-by-step

Power off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the side button and volume down button simultaneously until the sliders appear. Slide to power off the device completely.

Remove pentalobe screws
2 minUnscrew the two 6.8 mm P2 pentalobe screws located on the bottom edge of the iPhone next to the Lightning port.

Heat the lower edge
2 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer to the lower edge of the phone for about two minutes to soften the adhesive holding the display.

Attach the suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup onto the lower half of the screen, just above the bottom edge.

Lift the display
2 minPull up firmly on the suction cup to create a small gap between the display panel and the frame.

Insert an opening pick
1 minInsert a plastic prying pick into the gap created at the bottom edge of the phone.

Slice the perimeter adhesive
3 minSlide the pick around the edges of the device to cut through the waterproof seal holding the screen.

Open the display
1 minSwing the display open from the right side like a book cover, resting it against a stable object.

Unscrew the connector cover
3 minRemove the three Y000 screws securing the metal cover bracket over the battery and display connectors.

Disconnect the battery
1 minUse a spudger to gently pry the battery cable connector straight up out of its socket.

Disconnect the display cable
2 minPry the display cable connector straight up from the logic board using the flat end of a spudger.

Separate the display
1 minLift the display panel clear off the main body and place it face down on a clean surface.

Unscrew the loudspeaker
3 minRemove the Phillips and standoff screws securing the loudspeaker assembly at the bottom of the case.

Remove the loudspeaker
2 minLift the loudspeaker out of the bottom cavity using tweezers.

Unscrew the Taptic Engine
2 minRemove the retaining screws holding the Taptic Engine linear motor in place.

Remove the Taptic Engine
2 minDisconnect the ribbon cable and lift the Taptic Engine module out of the chassis.

Unscrew the Lightning port
4 minRemove all screws anchoring the Lightning connector assembly, microphones, and lower frame brackets.

Peel up the charging port assembly
4 minCarefully pry the flexible cable and microphone modules off the rear case using a flat spudger.

Remove the old port assembly
1 minLift the complete Lightning port flex assembly out of the enclosure.

Install the new charging port
5 minAlign the replacement assembly into place, press the microphones into their slots, and secure all screws.
