Step-by-step

Power down the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the side button and volume down button, then slide the screen slider to turn off the device.

Unscrew pentalobe screws
2 minRemove the two 6.8 mm P2 Pentalobe screws located on either side of the Lightning port.

Apply heat to bottom edge
2 minUse a heat gun or hair dryer on low setting to warm the bottom edge of the display for two minutes.

Attach suction cup
1 minPlace the suction cup near the bottom edge of the glass screen, just above the Lightning port.

Create a seam gap
2 minPull up firmly on the suction cup to create a small gap between the display panel and the frame.

Insert opening pick
1 minInsert the tip of a plastic opening pick into the gap created at the bottom edge.

Slice bottom adhesive
2 minSlide the opening pick carefully along the bottom edge to slice through the display adhesive.

Unseal left side edge
2 minMove the pick along the left edge of the phone to cut through the waterproof seal.

Unseal right side edge
2 minSlide the pick along the right edge of the frame to release the remaining display clips.

Open display assembly
1 minGently swing the display open from the right edge like the cover of a book.

Unscrew battery bracket
2 minRemove the three Y000 screws securing the battery connector cover bracket.

Disconnect the battery
1 minPry the battery press connector straight up from its socket using a plastic spudger.

Unscrew display bracket
2 minRemove the two Y000 screws securing the display cable bracket to the logic board.

Disconnect display cable
1 minUse the edge of your spudger to pry up and disconnect the display cable.

Remove display assembly
1 minLift the display assembly completely away from the phone body and set it aside.

Unscrew bottom loudspeaker
3 minRemove the four screws securing the loudspeaker assembly to the bottom enclosure.

Unseat the loudspeaker
2 minGently insert a spudger under the top edge of the loudspeaker and pry it out of its recess.

Extract faulty loudspeaker
1 minLift the loudspeaker module out of the chassis using precision tweezers.
