Step-by-step

Power off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the side button and volume up button simultaneously, then slide to power off.

Remove the pentalobe screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 6.7 mm screws on the bottom edge of the iPhone.

Heat the lower display edge
2 minApply a heat gun or hairdryer to the bottom edge of the iPhone for two minutes to soften the display adhesive.

Attach the suction cup
1 minPress a suction cup onto the lower half of the glass screen, just above the home indicator bar.

Create an opening gap
2 minPull up on the suction cup with firm, steady pressure to create a tiny gap between the screen and frame.

Insert an opening pick
1 minInsert the tip of a plastic opening pick into the gap at the bottom edge.

Slice the bottom adhesive
2 minSlide the opening pick back and forth along the bottom edge to slice through the adhesive seal.

Slice the left edge adhesive
2 minSlide the pick along the left edge from bottom to top, stopping just before the upper corner.

Slice the right edge adhesive
2 minSlide the pick along the right edge from bottom to top to free the display.

Open the display like a book
1 minGently swing the display open from the left to the right side, resting it against a sturdy object.

Unscrew the lower connector bracket
3 minUse a Y000 Tri-point screwdriver to remove the screws securing the lower connector cover bracket.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minUse the flat end of a plastic spudger to gently pry the battery connector straight up from its socket.

Disconnect the display cable
1 minUse a plastic spudger to disconnect the display panel press connector.

Disconnect the front sensor assembly
1 minPry up the front sensor assembly cable connector carefully with a spudger.

Remove the display assembly
1 minLift the entire display assembly off the rear case and place it face-down on a clean surface.

Unscrew the earpiece speaker assembly
3 minRemove the Phillips and Tri-point screws securing the speaker and sensor assembly on the top back of the old display.

Detach the proximity sensor and microphone
3 minUse fine tweezers to gently pry the ambient light sensor, proximity sensor, and microphone from their recesses.

Align sensors on the new screen
2 minPosition the ear speaker and sensor assembly onto the corresponding slots of the replacement screen.

Fasten the sensor assembly screws
2 minTighten the screws securing the speaker and sensor assembly into place on the new screen panel.

Clean old adhesive from the frame
3 minRemove all remaining original adhesive strips from the perimeter of the aluminum housing using tweezers and isopropyl alcohol.

Apply new display adhesive
3 minPeel and align the pre-cut waterproof display adhesive onto the edges of the phone frame, pressing firmly.

Connect the display cable
2 minAlign and snap the display press connector onto the logic board.

2 minPress the sensor assembly flex cable connector straight down onto its socket until it clicks.

Reconnect the battery

Secure the connector bracket
2 minPlace the metal connector cover bracket in position and fasten the Y000 Tri-point screws.

Press display into the frame
2 minAlign the top edge of the display with the top bezel, then press down around all edges until it snaps flush.

Install the pentalobe screws
2 minInsert and tighten the two P2 pentalobe screws at the bottom of the device beside the Lightning port.
