Step-by-step
- 1
Power off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the side button and either volume button, then slide to power off. Ensure the phone is completely shut down before proceeding.

Remove lower Pentalobe screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 6.8 mm screws on either side of the Lightning port.

Heat lower edge of display
2 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer to the bottom edge of the phone for 2 minutes to soften the display adhesive.

Attach suction handle
1 minPlace a suction cup on the lower half of the screen just above the Lightning port and press firmly to seal it.

Slice lower edge adhesive
3 minPull up gently on the suction cup to create a small gap and insert a plastic opening pick under the screen glass.

Slice perimeter display adhesive
4 minSlide the plastic pick around the left and right edges to cut through the remaining adhesive seal.

Open screen like a book
2 minSwing the display open from the left side toward the right. Support the display with a box or object so it doesn't strain the ribbon cables.

Remove display shield bracket screws
3 minUse a Tri-point Y000 screwdriver to remove the four screws holding down the lower metal connector bracket.

Remove connector cover bracket
1 minUse tweezers to lift the metal shield bracket off the board and set it aside.

Disconnect battery press connector
1 minUse the pointed end of a spudger to pry the battery flex cable straight up out of its socket.

Disconnect display flex cables
2 minPry up the OLED display cable and digitizer cable connectors using your spudger.

Separate display from enclosure
1 minLift the display assembly completely off the phone frame and set it in a safe workspace.

Unscrew loudspeaker assembly
3 minRemove the Phillips and Tri-point screws securing the loudspeaker at the bottom of the case.

Remove loudspeaker
2 minGently pry up the loudspeaker module using a spudger and lift it out of the enclosure.

Remove Taptic Engine screws
2 minRemove the screws securing the Taptic Engine vibration motor to the lower frame.

Remove Taptic Engine
2 minDisconnect the Taptic Engine flex cable and lift the vibration unit out of the housing.

Unscrew charging port assembly
4 minRemove all retaining screws fixing the Lightning connector assembly and bottom microphones to the frame.

Peel up old charging port flex cable
3 minApply light heat to the rear case bottom, then carefully use a spudger to pry up the glued flex cable assembly.

Install replacement charging port flex
4 minAlign the new Lightning flex cable module into place, pressing down firmly to secure the adhesive and micro-switches.

Reassemble components and close device
10 minReinstall all removed screws, Taptic Engine, loudspeaker, reconnect screen cables and battery, then press the display back into the enclosure.
