Step-by-step

Power off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the side button and volume down button simultaneously, then slide the screen toggle to power off the device completely.

Remove lower pentalobe screws
2 minUse a P2 pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 3.5 mm screws located on the bottom edge beside the Lightning port.

Heat the display edges
2 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer around the outer perimeter of the display for two minutes to soften the waterproof adhesive.

Attach suction cup tool
1 minPlace a suction cup onto the lower portion of the screen, right above the Lightning port area, and press down securely.

Slice the display adhesive
4 minPull up on the suction cup to create a slight gap, then slide a thin plastic prying tool around the edges to cut the adhesive gasket.

Open the display assembly
1 minGently lift the right side of the screen up and open the iPhone toward the left side like opening a book cover.

Remove the connector bracket
3 minUse a Tri-point Y000 screwdriver to remove the four screws securing the lower logic board cover bracket, then lift the bracket away.

Disconnect the battery
1 minUse the pointed tip of a spudger to gently pry the battery connector straight up from its socket on the logic board.

Disconnect display flex cables
2 minPry up the display connector and the ambient light sensor assembly connector using the flat end of a spudger tool.

Remove the loudspeaker
3 minUnscrew the five screws securing the lower speaker assembly and lift the speaker module out of the lower chassis.

Remove the Taptic Engine
3 minRemove the three standoff screws anchoring the Taptic Engine and lift the vibrator unit out using tweezers.

Detach the microphone and port assembly
4 minRemove the retaining screws holding the lower microphone and Lightning connector flex cable to the inside bottom frame.

Pry up the microphone flex cable
3 minApply mild heat to the rear bottom case, then use a spudger to carefully unstick the lower microphone flex cable from the aluminum enclosure.

Install the new microphone assembly
3 minAlign the replacement lower microphone and port assembly into the housing and press it down to adhere it securely into place.
