Step-by-step

Power Off Device
1 minPress and hold the side button and volume down button until the power slider appears. Slide to power off the iPhone completely.

Remove Pentalobe Screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 3.4 mm screws located on the bottom edge of the iPhone.

Heat Bottom Edge
2 minApply heat from a heat gun or hair dryer to the bottom edge of the frame for two minutes to soften the display adhesive.

Attach Suction Cup
1 minPress a suction cup handle onto the lower half of the glass display, just above the bottom speaker port.

Insert Opening Pick
2 minPull up firmly on the suction cup to create a slight gap, then insert an opening pick under the lower display edge.

Slice Screen Adhesive
3 minSlide the pick around the bottom corner and up the sides of the phone to cut through the perimeter water-resistance seal.

Open Display Assembly
2 minSwing the display open from the left edge like a book cover, resting it vertically against a sturdy support.

Unscrew Lower Bracket
3 minUse a Y000 tri-point screwdriver to remove the four screws securing the lower display logic board cover.

1 minUse tweezers to lift and remove the metal lower display bracket from the device frame.

1 minUse the flat edge of a spudger to pry the battery press connector straight up out of its socket.

Unscrew Upper Bracket
2 minRemove the three Y000 tri-point screws holding the upper front sensor assembly connector bracket in place.

Disconnect Front Sensors
1 minDisconnect the front sensor and earpiece cable connector using the tip of a spudger.

Remove Display
1 minLift the display assembly away from the rear enclosure and place it flat on a clean surface.

Peel Adhesive Tabs
2 minUse precision tweezers to unstick and peel back the black adhesive pull-tabs located at the top and bottom edges of the battery.

Pull Stretch Adhesive
4 minSlowly pull each adhesive tab outward at a low angle until the strip stretches out completely from under the battery.

Remove Old Battery
2 minLift the battery out of the frame; if stuck, apply a few drops of isopropyl alcohol underneath to dissolve remaining adhesive.

Install Replacement Battery
3 minApply new adhesive strips to the back of the replacement battery and press it firmly into position inside the rear case.
