Step-by-step

Power down the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the side button and either volume button, then slide to power off the device completely.

Remove bottom pentalobe screws
2 minUse a P2 pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 6.7 mm screws located on both sides of the Lightning port.

Apply heat to bottom edge
2 minHeat the lower edge of the display screen with a heat gun or hair dryer for 2 minutes to soften the internal adhesive.

Attach suction cup
1 minPress a suction cup onto the lower half of the display screen assembly, just above the bottom bezel.

Create a lower edge gap
3 minPull up firmly on the suction cup while pressing down on the frame to create a small gap between the display and chassis.

Insert opening pick
1 minInsert the tip of a plastic opening pick into the gap at the bottom edge of the phone.

Slice right side adhesive
2 minSlide the opening pick up the right edge of the iPhone to slice through the display adhesive clips.

Slice left side adhesive
2 minSlide the opening pick around the bottom corner and up the left edge to loosen the remaining adhesive.

Open display assembly
1 minSwing the screen open from the right side like a book cover. Rest the screen upright against a stable object.

Unscrew logic board shield
3 minUse a Y000 tri-point screwdriver to remove the four screws securing the logic board connector cover.

Remove cover plate
1 minUse tweezers to lift out the metal logic board shield plate and place it safely aside.

Disconnect battery cable
1 minPry the battery press connector straight up from its socket on the logic board using a plastic spudger.

Disconnect display ribbon cables
2 minDisconnect the OLED display cable and the digitizer touch cable using the flat edge of a spudger.

Remove screen assembly
1 minLift the entire screen assembly off the enclosure and set it flat on your workspace mat.

Unscrew earpiece speaker array
3 minRemove the four Y000 screws securing the earpiece speaker and sensor bracket on the back of the old display.

Flip back speaker housing
2 minGently flip the speaker unit downward to expose the ambient light sensor, flood illuminator, and proximity sensor.

Pry up sensor assembly
4 minUse a spudger to carefully slide beneath the proximity sensor and flood illuminator to detach them from the screen bracket.

Transfer sensor array to new screen
3 minAlign and seat the original sensor and earpiece assembly into the matching slots on the replacement screen.

Secure earpiece assembly
3 minFold the earpiece speaker back over the sensors and tighten the four Y000 screws to fix it in place.

Clean housing frame
4 minScrape away remaining old adhesive remnants from the perimeter of the phone housing using isopropyl alcohol and a spudger.

Apply perimeter seal
3 minPeel and position the new waterproof display adhesive strip onto the clean perimeter frame of the chassis.

Reconnect display flex cables
3 minAlign and snap the digitizer cable, OLED display cable, and sensor array cable onto their logic board sockets.

Reconnect battery press connector
1 minPress the battery connector directly down into its socket on the logic board until it snaps securely.

Reinstall shield cover
2 minPlace the metal logic board shield back in position and tighten the four Y000 screws.

Align and seat display
2 minHook the top edge of the screen into the phone chassis, then press along the sides until all perimeter clips snap in.

Reinstall pentalobe screws
2 minInsert and tighten the two P2 pentalobe screws next to the Lightning port to lock the display in place.
