Unscrew Bottom Pentalobe Screws
2 minPower off your iPhone 12 Pro Max completely. Remove the two 6.7 mm P2 Pentalobe screws located on either side of the Lightning port.
- 2
Heat Lower Display Edge
2 minApply a heat gun or iOpener to the bottom edge of the screen for two minutes to soften the display adhesive seal.
- 3
Attach Suction Cup
2 minPress a suction cup onto the bottom half of the screen, right above the Lightning port. Pull up firmly to create a small gap between the glass and metal frame.
- 4
Slice Display Adhesive
4 minInsert an opening pick into the gap and carefully slide it along the bottom and side edges to cut through the water resistance seal.
- 5
Open Display Assembly
2 minSwing the screen open from the left side like a book cover. Prop it up against a sturdy object so you do not strain the delicate display cables.
- 6
Remove Lower Connector Bracket
3 minUnscrew the four Y000 tri-point screws holding the lower display connector cover plate. Use tweezers to lift the plate out of the housing.
- 7
Disconnect Battery Cable
1 minPry the battery press connector straight up from its socket on the logic board using a plastic spudger to prevent electrical shorts.
- 8
Disconnect Display Cables
2 minUse your spudger to pry up the OLED screen cable connector and the digitizer cable connector from the board.
- 9
Remove Upper Sensor Bracket
3 minUnscrew the three Y000 screws securing the upper sensor assembly cover bracket and remove the bracket.
- 10
Separate Display Assembly
2 minDisconnect the front sensor assembly flex cable and set the display assembly aside completely.
- 11
Remove Loudspeaker Screws
3 minRemove the four Phillips screws anchoring the lower loudspeaker assembly to the bottom of the enclosure.
- 12
Remove Loudspeaker and Taptic Engine
3 minDisconnect the Taptic Engine ribbon cable, then lift out both the speaker module and the Taptic Engine.
- 13
Pull Battery Adhesive Strips
5 minLocate the stretch-release adhesive pull-tabs at the top and bottom edges of the battery. Pull each tab slowly and horizontally parallel to the phone chassis.
- 14
Remove Battery
3 minLift the battery out of the frame using a flat spudger. Apply a few drops of high-concentration isopropyl alcohol underneath if adhesive remains.
- 15
Remove Logic Board Fasteners
4 minUnscrew the standoff and Y000 screws securing the logic board, then remove the SIM card tray using an eject tool.
- 16
Lift Out Logic Board
4 minDisconnect the remaining rear camera and interconnect flex cables, then gently tilt and pull the logic board out of the case.
- 17
Heat Rear Glass Center
2 minApply heat to the outside back glass directly over the circular MagSafe area for two minutes to loosen the coil's strong adhesive layer.
- 18
Pry Out Wireless Charging Coil
5 minInsert a flat plastic spudger under the wireless charging assembly and lift the coil along with its connected volume button flex cable.
