Safety

Step-by-step

Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the side button along with either volume button, then slide the power slider to turn off the iPhone.

Remove the lower pentalobe screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 3.5 mm screws located on either side of the Lightning port.

Heat the lower display edge
2 minApply a heat gun or hairdryer to the bottom edge of the phone for approximately two minutes to soften the waterproof seal adhesive.

Attach the suction cup
1 minPress a suction cup firmly onto the lower portion of the screen assembly, just above the Lightning port.

Slice the lower adhesive seal
2 minPull up gently on the suction cup to create a small gap, then insert an opening pick under the screen at the bottom edge.

Slice the side display adhesive
3 minSlide the pick around the bottom-left and right sides to cut through the adhesive. Do not slice along the top edge.

Open the display panel
1 minSwing the screen open from the right side to the left, like a book, taking care not to strain the internal flex cables.

Remove the lower connector bracket
2 minUse a Y000 tri-point driver to remove the four screws securing the metal plate over the battery and display connectors.

Disconnect the battery
1 minGently pry the battery press connector up from its socket on the logic board using the pointed end of a spudger.

Disconnect the display cables
2 minUse your spudger to pry up the OLED panel connector and the digitizer cable connector from the board.

Detach the display assembly
1 minLift the display assembly free from the rear enclosure and store it in a safe place.

Unscrew the lower loudspeaker
2 minRemove the four Phillips #000 screws holding the loudspeaker assembly to the lower frame.

Lift out the loudspeaker
2 minPry up the loudspeaker module carefully with a spudger and lift it out of the chassis.

Unscrew the Taptic Engine
2 minRemove the three Y000 screws securing the Taptic Engine vibrating motor to the bottom of the enclosure.

Remove the Taptic Engine
1 minDisconnect the Taptic Engine flex cable connector and lift the vibrator unit out of the housing.

Eject the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool or paperclip into the pinhole on the side frame to eject the SIM tray.

Unscrew the charging port module
3 minRemove the five Phillips and tri-point screws holding the Lightning connector port and microphone bracket to the bottom frame.

Pry up the charging port assembly
3 minApply light heat to the rear of the lower case, then gently peel the Lightning flex cable assembly off the internal housing using a spudger.
