Step-by-step

Power off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the side button and volume down button until the power off slider appears. Slide to completely turn off the device.

Remove the Pentalobe screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 6.7 mm screws located on either side of the Lightning port.

Heat the bottom edge
2 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer to the lower edge of the phone for approximately two minutes to soften the display adhesive.

Attach suction cup tool
1 minPlace a suction cup on the lower half of the screen assembly, just above the home button area.

Create a lower opening gap
2 minPull up on the suction cup with firm, constant pressure to create a small gap between the front panel and rear case.

Insert an opening pick
1 minInsert a thin opening pick into the gap created at the bottom edge of the phone.

Slice bottom adhesive
2 minSlide the opening pick along the bottom edge of the phone to cut through the water-resistance adhesive.

Slice left edge adhesive
2 minMove the pick carefully up the left edge of the phone to separate the adhesive, stopping before the top corner.

Slice right edge adhesive
2 minReinsert the pick at the bottom and slide it up the right edge to release the remaining side adhesive.

Open display assembly
2 minGently swing the screen open from the left side, like opening the cover of a book.

Support the opened display
1 minProp the screen up against a solid object at a 90-degree angle to avoid straining the delicate display cables.

Unscrew lower connector bracket
2 minUse a Y000 tri-point driver to remove the three 1.0 mm screws securing the lower connector cover.

Remove lower connector bracket
1 minUse precision tweezers to remove the metal lower connector bracket from the phone.

Disconnect the battery
1 minPry the battery connector straight up from its socket on the logic board using the flat end of a spudger.

Unscrew logic board display bracket
3 minRemove the five Y000 tri-point screws holding the main logic board display cable bracket in place.

Remove display cable bracket
1 minLift and remove the logic board display cable bracket using tweezers.

Disconnect touch digitizer flex cable
1 minUse the edge of a spudger to pry the touch digitizer cable connector straight up from its socket.

Disconnect OLED screen cable
1 minPry the OLED panel display cable connector straight up off the board socket.

Disconnect front sensor assembly cable
1 minDisconnect the top ambient light and proximity sensor assembly flex cable from its motherboard socket.

Separate display assembly
1 minLift and completely remove the display assembly away from the rear enclosure.

Unscrew earpiece speaker assembly
3 minRemove the four screws holding the speaker and sensor assembly on the back of the original display.

Transfer sensor assembly to new display
5 minCarefully pry up the sensor assembly and transfer it into the alignment slots on the new replacement screen.

Apply new frame adhesive
4 minClean the frame edges with isopropyl alcohol and lay down a new pre-cut perimeter adhesive gasket.

Reconnect screen and battery cables
3 minConnect the display cables and front sensor cable to the board, followed by the battery connector.

Reinstall brackets and close device
4 minReattach the metal shielding brackets, align the top edge of the screen, press the display down, and reinstall the Pentalobe screws.
