Step-by-step

Power off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the side button and volume down button until the power slider appears, then slide to power off.

Remove bottom Pentalobe screws
2 minUnscrew the two 6.7 mm P2 Pentalobe screws located on either side of the Lightning port.

Heat the lower edge
2 minApply a warm heat gun or hair dryer to the lower edge of the phone for two minutes to soften the display adhesive.

Apply suction cup
1 minAttach a suction cup to the lower half of the front glass, just above the home button area.

Separate the display screen
3 minPull up firmly on the suction cup to create a small gap, then insert an opening pick into the seam.

Slice perimeter adhesive
4 minSlide the opening pick around the lower left and right edges to cut through the screen adhesive.

Open display like a book

3 minRemove the five Phillips #000 screws securing the speaker assembly to the bottom of the enclosure.

Remove loudspeaker assembly
2 minLift the loudspeaker out of the phone chassis using tweezers or a spudger.

Unscrew Taptic Engine
2 minRemove the two screws holding the Taptic Engine module near the bottom edge.

Remove Taptic Engine
2 minDisconnect the Taptic Engine flex cable and lift the vibrator unit out of the device.

Unscrew microphone bracket
4 minRemove the retention screws securing the primary microphone and Lightning port flex assembly to the frame.

Peel microphone flex cable
5 minCarefully pry the microphone rubber housing and flex cable off the bottom edge using a spudger.

Install new microphone assembly
5 minAlign and press the new flex cable assembly with the built-in primary microphone flat against the case.

Reassemble internal components
10 minReinstall the Taptic Engine, loudspeaker, display cables, battery bracket, and display screen in reverse order.
