Step-by-step

Disconnect all cables
2 minUnplug the AC power cord, HDMI cable, and all USB accessories from the console. Wait 10 minutes to allow the power supply capacitors to fully discharge.

Remove the expansion slot cover
2 minUse a Phillips #1 screwdriver to remove the single screw securing the metal M.2 SSD cover plate.

Disconnect the front IO ribbon cables
3 minUse a spudger to flip up the locking levers on the ZIF connectors and pull the ribbon cables free.

Unplug the main power supply harness
3 minGrasp the power harness connector firmly and pull it straight out from the motherboard socket.

Unscrew the top metal shield
6 minRemove the TR8 screws securing the upper electromagnetic shield to the internal frame.

Lift off the top shield plate
3 minCarefully lift the metal shield plate straight off the motherboard, taking care not to snag any thermal pads.

Contain the liquid metal thermal interface
8 minInspect the APU surface and ensure the liquid metal compound remains inside its foam barrier ring without spreading onto surrounding components.

Extract the motherboard assembly
4 minLift the motherboard out of the lower chassis half and place it on an anti-static surface.

Inspect circuits and clean traces
10 minUse a magnifying glass and 99% isopropyl alcohol to check the board for blown fuses, damaged HDMI trace filters, or shorted capacitors.
