Step-by-step

Slide off the top outer cover
2 minPlace the console top-side up and slide the top plastic cover backward to release the locking clips. Lift the cover straight off.

Remove the lower outer panel
2 minTurn the console upside down and pry up on the rear corners of the bottom plastic casing until it pops free from the frame.

Peel away rear warranty stickers
1 minUse tweezers to carefully peel off the safety stickers on the rear panel to expose the underlying security screws.

Remove rear security screws
3 minUnscrew the TR9 Torx Security screws located on the back panel of the console frame.

Unscrew top metal shielding panel
4 minUse a Phillips #0 screwdriver to remove all retaining screws around the perimeter of the upper metal shield.

Lift off the top metal plate
2 minGently lift the large top metal shielding plate straight up off the chassis to reveal the disc drive assembly.

Disconnect the disc drive power cable
2 minLocate the power wire harness connected to the disc drive and pull the plug straight out of its socket.

Unlock and disconnect drive ribbon cables
2 minFlip open the ZIF connector locking tab with a spudger and slide the flat ribbon cable out of the motherboard connector.

Remove optical drive mounting screws
3 minRemove the Phillips screws holding the optical drive housing to the internal metal frame.

Lift out the faulty disc drive
2 minGrasp the optical disc drive by its housing edges and lift it out of the console chassis.

Position the replacement disc drive
2 minLower the replacement disc drive assembly into place, aligning it with the mounting standoffs on the frame.

Secure the new optical drive
3 minInsert and tighten the Phillips mounting screws to anchor the disc drive firmly to the internal frame.

Reconnect drive ribbon and power cables
3 minInsert the ribbon cable back into its ZIF connector, latch the tab, and plug the power harness securely into the drive board.

Replace the metal shielding plate
2 minLower the top metal shield plate back over the internal components, matching screw hole locations.

Secure metal shielding screws
4 minThread and tighten all perimeter Phillips screws to hold the upper shield plate firmly in place.

Snap outer casing covers closed
3 minAlign the bottom and top plastic panels with the chassis and push down until all retention clips snap into position.
