Step-by-step

Remove the Housing Screws
2 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the four 6.0 mm screws located on the back of the controller casing.

Pry Open the Controller Handles
3 minInsert a plastic opening pick into the seam along the left handle and gently twist to disengage the internal clips.

Unclip Near the Triggers
3 minSlide the plastic pry tool along the top edge between the L2 and R2 triggers to release the remaining plastic latches.

Disconnect the Light Bar Ribbon Cable
2 minCarefully pull the top and bottom shell halves slightly apart, then use precision tweezers to disconnect the white ribbon cable from the circuit board.

Separate the Rear Housing
1 minLift the rear housing completely away from the front assembly and place it on your workspace.

Unplug the Battery Connector
2 minGrasp the white battery connector plug with tweezers and pull it straight out of the motherboard header.

Remove the Battery and Tray
1 minLift the battery pack off the circuit board, then lift out the black plastic battery retaining tray beneath it.

Disconnect the Touchpad Ribbon Cable
2 minUse a spudger to lift the locking tab on the touchpad ZIF connector and slide the ribbon cable out.

Remove the Circuit Board Screw
2 minUnscrew the single 4.5 mm Phillips screw securing the center of the motherboard to the front housing.

Lift Out the Motherboard Assembly
3 minGently lift the motherboard along with the attached rumble motors out of the front plastic frame.

Pull Off the Analog Thumbsticks
1 minGrasp the plastic thumbstick caps and pull them straight off the metal joystick potentiometer shafts.

Install Replacement Thumbsticks
2 minAlign the D-shaped socket of each new thumbstick cap with the potentiometer shafts and push down firmly until seated.

Reinstall the Board and Reconnect Cables
5 minLower the motherboard assembly back into the front frame, reconnect the touchpad and light bar cables, then snap the housing halves back together.
