Safety
- Disconnect the battery before touching any internal electronic components.
- Wear an anti-static wrist strap to prevent electrostatic damage to internal circuits.
- Do not force or bend ribbon cables or ZIF locking latches.
Overview
Step-by-step

Power off the console
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Power Options and choose Turn Off. Disconnect all external cables and charging accessories.

Remove the rear panel screws
2 minUse a Y00 tri-point screwdriver to remove the four outer screws located on the back cover of the device.

Remove side and bottom screws
3 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to unthread the side rail screws and the bottom edge mounting screws.

Pry open the outer shell
3 minInsert a plastic opening pick into the seam along the bottom edge. Gently slide the pick around the perimeter to unclip the shell.

Lift off the back cover
2 minCarefully lift the rear casing straight up and set it aside, taking care not to snag the microSD slot board.

Unscrew the metal shield plate
3 minRemove the silver Phillips #00 screws securing the aluminum heat shield to the internal chassis.

Remove the metal shield plate
2 minLift the aluminum shield off the device to expose the motherboard and drive components.

Disconnect the battery cable
2 minUse a spudger to gently pry the battery connector straight up from its motherboard socket.

Disconnect the drive ribbon cable
2 minFlip up the locking tab on the ZIF socket with a spudger, then pull the ribbon cable out using tweezers.

Unscrew the drive assembly
3 minRemove the four Phillips #00 screws securing the disc drive frame to the main chassis.

Remove the damaged drive
2 minLift the faulty drive unit straight up out of the console housing bay.

Install the new drive assembly
2 minAlign the replacement drive unit over the mounting posts and press it into place.

Secure the new drive
3 minReinstall the four Phillips #00 screws to anchor the new drive securely to the chassis.

Reconnect the drive ribbon cable
2 minSlide the ribbon cable flat into the ZIF socket, then push the locking latch down to secure it.

Reconnect the battery cable
2 minAlign the battery plug over the motherboard socket and press straight down until it clicks.

Power the Switch Pro back on and test the disc drive repair function before you put every screw away. Check touch/display response, charging, cameras, buttons, and wireless as relevant to this repair.
