Step-by-step
- 1
Remove the MicroSD Card
1 minPower down your console completely and pop open the kickstand. Eject and remove any inserted MicroSD card from the slot.

Unscrew the Rear Housing
2 minUse a Y00 tri-point screwdriver to remove the four outer corner screws on the rear shell.

Remove Top and Bottom Edge Screws
2 minUse a Phillips #00 driver to remove the single screw on the top edge and the two screws on the bottom edge near the USB-C port.

Remove Kickstand Area Screws
2 minFold open the kickstand and remove the two hidden Phillips #00 screws inside the kickstand recess.

Remove Side Rail Screws
3 minRemove the center Phillips #00 screw from both the left and right Joy-Con slide rails.

Lift Away the Back Shell
1 minCarefully lift the plastic back shell off the console and set it aside.

Disconnect the MicroSD Card Board
2 minRemove the single Phillips #00 screw securing the MicroSD card board, then unclip its press-fit connector using a spudger.

Unscrew the Metal Shielding Plate
3 minRemove the six Phillips #00 screws holding the aluminum shield plate to the interior frame.

Remove the Shield Plate
1 minLift the aluminum shield plate straight up to reveal the internal battery and mainboard layout.

Disconnect the Battery
2 minInsert a spudger under the battery connector board and pry it straight up to isolate power from the console.

Remove the Heat Pipe Screws
2 minRemove the three Phillips #00 screws securing the copper heat pipe over the processor heat spreader.

Lift Off the Heat Pipe
2 minGently lift the heat pipe off the board, taking care not to bend the copper tubing.

Disconnect Board ZIF Cables
5 minUse tweezers to flip open the locking flaps on all motherboard ZIF connectors and gently pull out the ribbon cables.

Remove Motherboard Screws
3 minRemove the six Phillips #00 screws securing the motherboard assembly to the center chassis.

Extract the Motherboard
3 minGently lift the motherboard out of the housing, ensuring no remaining ribbon cables catch on the edges.

Perform Chip Rework
15 minApply liquid flux to the target SMD components and use a hot air rework station or fine-tip soldering iron to repair damaged circuitry.
