Step-by-step

Unscrew Back Shell Y-Screws
3 minUse a Y00 tri-point screwdriver to remove the four corner screws on the rear outer casing.

Remove Edge Screws
3 minRemove the two Phillips #00 screws from the bottom edge and two from the top and cartridge areas.

Pry Off Rear Cover
4 minInsert a plastic opening pick into the lower seam and slide along the perimeter to unsnap the rear shell.

Unscrew MicroSD Card Reader
2 minRemove the single Phillips #00 screw holding the microSD card reader board in place.

Disconnect MicroSD Card Reader
2 minGently pry the microSD card reader straight up to detach its press-fit connector from the motherboard.

Unscrew Aluminum Shield Plate
3 minRemove the four Phillips #00 screws securing the silver metal heat shield plate.

Lift Off Shield Plate
2 minLift the metal heat shield straight up off the chassis and set it aside.

Disconnect Battery Power
2 minUse a nylon spudger to pry the battery connector straight up out of its socket to cut power.

Unscrew Copper Heatsink
3 minRemove the three Phillips #00 screws securing the copper heat pipe over the processor and power circuitry.

Remove Copper Heatsink
2 minCarefully lift the copper heat pipe off the board to access the power delivery chips.

Disconnect Power Ribbon Cable
2 minFlip open the ZIF lock lever on the power button cable socket and gently pull the ribbon cable out.

Inspect Power Delivery Components
5 minInspect the M92T36 power management IC and charging port pins for burnt components or physical damage.

Clean Thermal Compound
3 minWipe away old thermal paste from the APU and heatsink using isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth.

Apply Fresh Thermal Paste
2 minPlace a small drop of non-conductive thermal paste onto the main processor die.

Reinstall Copper Heatsink
3 minPlace the heatsink over the APU and power IC areas, then tighten the three Phillips #00 screws.

Reconnect Battery and Reassemble
6 minPress the battery connector into its motherboard socket, reattach the shield plate, and resecure the rear cover.
