Step-by-step

Remove back cover Y00 screws
2 minUse a Y00 tri-point screwdriver to remove the four screws located on the outer corners of the back panel.

Remove outer Phillips screws
2 minRemove the four Phillips #00 screws located along the top, bottom, and side edges of the console.

Pry off the rear panel
3 minInsert a plastic opening pick into the seam between the front and back housing, then slide it along the edges to release the plastic clips.

Remove shield plate screws
2 minUnscrew the four Phillips #00 screws holding the aluminum shield plate to the interior frame.

Lift away the metal shield plate
1 minGently lift the silver shield plate off the console to expose the motherboard and internal components.

Disconnect the battery cable
2 minUse a plastic spudger to pry the battery connector straight up off its motherboard socket to prevent electrical shorts.

Remove the MicroSD card reader module
3 minUnscrew the single Phillips #00 screw securing the MicroSD board, then unclip its connector and lift the module out.

Unlock card reader ribbon cables
2 minUse tweezers or a spudger to flip up the small locking ZIF levers on the game card board's ribbon cable connectors.

Disconnect ribbon cables
2 minGently pull the headphone jack and main game card reader ribbon cables out of their ZIF sockets.

Unscrew the game card reader assembly
2 minRemove the four Phillips #00 screws holding the game card reader daughterboard to the chassis.

Remove the broken game card reader
1 minLift the damaged game card reader board straight up out of the console frame.

Insert the new card reader board
2 minLower the replacement game card reader assembly into the recess, aligning it with the screw posts.

Secure the card reader board
2 minReinstall the four Phillips #00 screws to fasten the new reader assembly to the chassis.

Reconnect ribbon cables
3 minInsert the ribbon cables back into their ZIF sockets and press the locking levers down flat to lock them.

Reattach the MicroSD card reader
2 minSnap the MicroSD connector back onto the motherboard and drive the single securing Phillips screw.

Reconnect the battery
1 minPress the battery connector firmly down into its socket on the motherboard.

Reinstall metal shield and back cover
4 minSet the metal shield plate back in place, tighten its screws, and snap the rear case back onto the frame before securing the outer screws.
