Step-by-step

Power Off the Console
1 minPress and hold the power button until the power menu appears, then select Turn Off. Do not attempt to charge or operate a wet console.

Eject External Cards
1 minOpen the kickstand or slot covers to remove any inserted game card or microSD card.

Remove Rear Tri-Point Screws
3 minUse a Tri-point Y00 screwdriver to remove the four outer screws securing the rear housing.

Remove Edge Phillips Screws
4 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the screws along the top, bottom, and side rail channels.

Unclip the Rear Housing
3 minInsert a plastic opening pick between the rear casing and frame, gently sliding it around the perimeter to release the plastic clips.

Unscrew the Metal Shield Plate
4 minRemove the Phillips #00 screws holding the aluminum heat shield to the internal frame.

Remove the Metal Shield Plate
2 minLift the aluminum shield plate straight up from the chassis and set it aside.

Disconnect the Battery Cable
2 minInsert a plastic spudger beneath the battery connector and pry it straight up from the motherboard socket.

Remove the Copper Heat Sink
3 minRemove the Phillips screws securing the heat sink and carefully lift it off the mainboard.

Disconnect All Ribbon Cables
5 minUse precision tweezers or a spudger to flip up the ZIF retaining flaps and disconnect all ribbon cables attached to the motherboard.

Unscrew the Motherboard
4 minRemove the remaining Phillips screws securing the main board to the plastic body assembly.

Extract the Motherboard
3 minCarefully lift the mainboard out of the frame by its edges, taking care not to snag any remaining wires.

10 minDip a soft antistatic brush into 99% isopropyl alcohol and gently scrub away any white or green mineral buildup on the circuit board.
