Step-by-step

Unplug all cables
1 minDisconnect the power adapter, HDMI cable, and all accessories from the dock.

Remove the back cover screws
2 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the four corner screws on the dock's rear panel.

Pry off the back panel
2 minInsert a plastic opening tool into the seam and gently unclip the rear plastic cover.

Remove the internal frame screws
3 minUnscrew the eight internal Phillips screws securing the circuit board shield.

Disconnect the LED indicator cable
2 minUse tweezers to carefully lift the small ribbon cable connector from the daughterboard.

Lift out the main circuit board

Apply flux to the HDMI port pins
2 minBrush rosin flux over the solder joints and anchor pads of the damaged HDMI port.

5 minUse a hot air rework station set to 350°C to heat the ground pads and signal pins uniformly.

Remove the broken HDMI port
2 minGrasp the port with tweezers and lift it cleanly away once the solder melts completely.

Clean the PCB solder pads
4 minApply desoldering braid and a soldering iron to remove excess solder from the board pads.

Clean remaining residue
2 minWipe the contact area with a lint-free swab dipped in 99% isopropyl alcohol.

Align the new HDMI port
2 minPosition the replacement HDMI port over the board pads using the alignment pins as a guide.

Solder the ground anchor pins
3 minTack down the four outer mounting posts with solder to secure the port in place.

Solder the data pins
6 minCarefully solder each individual signal pin using fine solder wire and fresh flux.

Inspect the pin connections
3 minUse a magnifying glass to check for solder bridges or cold joints between adjacent pins.

Reinstall the circuit board

Reattach the LED ribbon cable
