Power Off the Console
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Power Options and choose Turn Off. Ensure the device is fully shut down and disconnected from any power source.

Remove Rear Housing Screws
3 minUse a Tri-point Y00 screwdriver to remove the four outer screws securing the back panel. Place the screws in an organizer tray to avoid losing them.

Pry Off the Rear Shell
2 minInsert a plastic opening tool into the seam along the edge of the console. Gently lever the plastic clips free and lift away the back shell.

Disconnect the Battery Cable
2 minLocate the battery connector on the mainboard. Use the flat end of a spudger to pry the battery press connector straight up out of its socket.

Remove the Metal Shield Screws
3 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the six screws holding the metal shield plate to the inner frame.

Lift Away the Shield Plate
2 minGently lift the metal shield plate off the console frame. Set it aside safely.

Unlock Disc Drive Ribbon Cable
2 minUse fine tweezers or a spudger to flip up the small locking flap on the disc drive ZIF connector. Carefully slide the ribbon cable out of the socket.

Unscrew the Disc Drive Assembly
3 minRemove the four Phillips screws mounting the disc drive bracket to the inner frame.

Remove the Defective Disc Drive
2 minLift the disc drive straight up out of its bay. Be careful not to snag any surrounding internal cables during removal.

Position the Replacement Drive
2 minLower the new disc drive module into the chassis bay, aligning its screw holes with the mounting posts.

Secure New Disc Drive
3 minReinstall and tighten the four Phillips mounting screws to anchor the new disc drive firmly in place.

Reconnect Ribbon Cable and Battery
3 minInsert the drive ribbon cable into its ZIF socket and press the locking latch down. Press the battery connector firmly back into its mainboard socket.
