Safety
- Disconnect the battery immediately after opening the enclosure to prevent short circuits.
- Do not bend or puncture the lithium-ion battery cell during removal.
- Wear an anti-static wrist strap to avoid electrostatic discharge damage to internal ICs.

Step-by-step

Power Off and Detach Controller
1 minTurn off your Nintendo Switch 2 console completely. Slide the controller off the console rail by pressing the release button on the back.

Remove Rear Housing Screws
2 minUse a Tri-point screwdriver to remove the four screws on the back cover of the controller.

Pry Open Controller Shell
3 minInsert a plastic opening pick into the seam along the bottom edge and gently lever the rear shell away from the front housing.

Disconnect Battery Connector
2 minUse precision tweezers to lift the battery cable connector straight up out of its motherboard socket.

Remove Battery Pack
2 minPry beneath the battery using a plastic spudger to release it from the adhesive housing.

Unscrew Battery Mid-frame
3 minRemove the three Phillips screws holding the plastic battery tray to the internal casing.

Fold Over Mid-frame Bracket
2 minGently swing the mid-frame bracket out of the way, taking care not to strain the attached trigger ribbon cable.

Unlock Joystick ZIF Socket
1 minUse the tip of a spudger to flip up the small locking flap on the thumbstick ZIF ribbon connector.

Disconnect Joystick Cable
1 minGently pull the flexible joystick ribbon cable out of its socket using tweezers.

Unscrew Defective Joystick Module
2 minRemove the two Phillips screws securing the joystick assembly to the front shell.

Remove Analog Stick Assembly
1 minLift the damaged joystick assembly straight up and out of the controller casing.

Install Replacement Joystick
3 minPosition the new joystick module into the recess, aligning the screw holes, and re-insert the two mounting screws.

Power the Switch 2 back on and test the controller repair function before you put every screw away. Check touch/display response, charging, cameras, buttons, and wireless as relevant to this repair.
