Step-by-step

Eject the Stylus and Slot Cover
1 minPull the stylus out of its storage slot on the right side of the console. Remove the plastic Game Boy Advance slot cover from the lower edge.

Unscrew the Battery Door
1 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to loosen the single captive screw on the battery compartment door. Lift the door off the bottom housing.

Remove the Battery
1 minInsert a spudger into the notch beside the battery pack. Lever the battery upward to free it from the housing.

Remove the Lower Shell Screws
3 minUse a Tri-point Y00 screwdriver to remove the four outer casing screws. Use a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the two remaining housing screws near the cartridge slot and power port.

Lift Off the Lower Shell
2 minInsert a plastic opening pick into the seam along the bottom edge. Carefully separate and lift off the rear lower shell.

Remove the Trigger Buttons
2 minLift the left and right shoulder buttons off their plastic mounting posts using tweezers. Store the small metal springs attached to each trigger safely.

Disconnect the Wi-Fi Antenna Cable
2 minUse the flat end of a spudger to pry the black antenna coaxial cable straight up off the Wi-Fi module connector.

Remove the Wi-Fi Board
2 minGrasp the Wi-Fi module board and pull it straight up off its pin connector on the motherboard.

Unscrew the Motherboard
1 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the single screw securing the main motherboard to the upper chassis.

Disconnect the Touch Screen Ribbon Cable
2 minUse a spudger to flip up the black retaining latch on the small ZIF connector. Slide the touch screen flex cable out of the socket.

Disconnect the Display Ribbon Cables
3 minFlip open the ZIF connector retaining latches for the lower and upper LCD display cables. Pull both ribbon cables straight out of their sockets.

Lift Out the Damaged Motherboard
2 minCarefully guide the top screen ribbon cable through the pass-through slot in the board while lifting the motherboard out of the frame.

Position the Replacement Motherboard
3 minThread the top LCD flex cable through the slot on the new motherboard. Align and lower the board onto the front housing screw posts.

Reconnect Cables and Reassemble
5 minInsert all display and touch cables fully into their ZIF connectors and latch them down. Reattach the Wi-Fi module, shoulder buttons, rear shell, and screws.

Power the DS Lite back on and test the motherboard repair function before you put every screw away. Check touch/display response, charging, cameras, buttons, and wireless as relevant to this repair.
