Step-by-step

Remove the stylus and slot cover
1 minPull the stylus out from the side slot of the console. Remove the plastic GBA slot cover from the bottom edge.

Unscrew the battery cover
2 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to loosen the captive screw on the battery door. Lift the door off the lower case.

Remove the battery pack
1 minUse a spudger to gently pry the rechargeable lithium-ion battery out of its compartment. Set the battery aside safely.

Remove the housing screws
3 minRemove the four Tri-point Y0 screws and two Phillips #00 screws securing the rear shell. Store the screws in a tray to avoid mixing them up.

Separate the lower housing
2 minInsert a spudger along the seam of the bottom housing and gently pry it open. Lift the rear cover away from the console.

Remove shoulder button triggers
2 minLift the left and right shoulder trigger buttons off their posts using tweezers. Keep track of the small metal springs attached to each trigger.

Disconnect the Wi-Fi module
3 minUnplug the black Wi-Fi antenna cable from the wireless board using a spudger. Carefully unclip the Wi-Fi module from the main board.

Unscrew the motherboard
2 minRemove the single Phillips #00 screw holding the motherboard to the front housing.

Unlock ribbon cable ZIF connectors
3 minUse a spudger to gently flip up the locking tabs on the touchscreen and lower LCD ZIF connectors. Slide the ribbon cables out of their sockets.

Disconnect the upper LCD ribbon cable
3 minFeed the thick upper screen ribbon cable through the slot in the motherboard carefully. Disconnect it completely from the board.

Remove the main circuit board
2 minLift the motherboard out of the lower chassis. Set the old board on an anti-static surface.

Install the new motherboard
3 minPosition the replacement mainboard into the lower shell. Carefully feed the upper screen ribbon cable back through its designated slot.

Reconnect all screen ribbon cables
4 minInsert the lower LCD and touchscreen ribbon cables into their connectors and lock the ZIF tabs down. Reattach the upper display ribbon cable.

Secure the motherboard
3 minReplace the Phillips #00 screw on the motherboard. Reconnect the Wi-Fi board and snap the antenna cable securely onto its terminal.

Reinstall shoulder buttons and rear housing
4 minPosition the shoulder triggers with springs back onto their housing pegs. Place the rear cover on the console and tighten all housing screws.
