Step-by-step
- 1
Remove the Stylus and SD Card
1 minPower off the Nintendo 3DS completely. Slide the stylus and SD card out from their respective slots.

Unscrew the Battery Cover
2 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to loosen the two captive screws on the upper back cover.

Remove the Battery
2 minPry up the outer back plate, then lift the battery out of its bay using a spudger or your fingernail.

Unscrew the Rear Housing
4 minRemove the ten Phillips #00 screws securing the lower plastic housing to the inner chassis.

Detach the Shoulder Cables
3 minSlightly lift the lower housing and disconnect the left and right shoulder button ribbon cables from the motherboard.

Remove the Wi-Fi Module
2 minPop the Wi-Fi board up off its motherboard connector using a plastic spudger and lift it clear.

Remove the Circle Pad Assembly
3 minUnscrew the two Phillips screws holding the Circle Pad module, then unlock and disconnect its ribbon cable.

Disconnect Motherboard Ribbon Cables
5 minFlip up the locking ZIF tabs and gently pull out the screen, digitizer, and power ribbon cables from the board.

Remove Motherboard Screws
3 minRemove the remaining Phillips #00 screws attaching the main motherboard to the lower assembly.

Extract the Motherboard
4 minGently lift the motherboard out, feeding the upper screen ribbon cable through the housing slot carefully.

Apply Flux to HDMI Port Pins
2 minApply a small amount of liquid rosin flux over the solder joints of the damaged HDMI mod port.

Desolder Damaged HDMI Port
8 minApply heat using a fine-tip soldering iron and desoldering wick to clear existing solder from all pins.

Clean the Solder Pads
3 minWipe the bare copper pads using a lint-free swab dampened with 99% isopropyl alcohol.

Position New HDMI Port
3 minAlign the pins of the replacement micro/mini-HDMI port precisely over the motherboard pads.

Solder Mount Anchor Pins
5 minApply solder to the side structural anchor tabs first to lock the port securely in position.

Solder Signal Pins
7 minLightly touch each data pin with a fluxed iron tip and fine solder to create clean, individual joints.

Inspect Solder Connections
3 minExamine the pin array under magnification to ensure no solder bridges exist between adjacent contacts.

Reinstall Motherboard
4 minPlace the motherboard back into the lower chassis, guiding the top screen ribbon cable through its slot.

Reconnect Ribbon Cables and Circle Pad
6 minReattach all ribbon cables, secure the locking ZIF flaps, and screw the Circle Pad back into position.

Reassemble Shell and Battery
