Step-by-step

Power down the console
1 minHold the power button until the power LED turns off, then disconnect any charging cables.

Loosen the battery cover screws
2 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to loosen the two captive screws on the outer lower cover.

Pry off the battery cover
2 minInsert a plastic spudger into the top edge notches and lift the cover off the console.

Eject the SD card
1 minPress the installed SD card inward to release the latch, then pull it straight out of the slot.

Remove the battery
1 minPry up the battery from the bottom notch using a spudger and lift it out of the bay.

Unscrew the lower housing
3 minRemove the six Phillips #00 screws securing the inner rear casing to the main chassis.

Lift the lower housing
2 minGently tilt the lower housing open from the top edge, taking care not to strain the shoulder button ribbon cables.

Disconnect the shoulder button cables
2 minUse precision tweezers to lift the ribbon cable connectors for the L and R buttons off the motherboard.

Locate the SD card board
1 minIdentify the small square SD card reader assembly mounted at the bottom corner of the motherboard.

Unlock the ZIF connector
2 minUse the edge of a spudger to carefully flip up the dark retaining flap on the SD reader ZIF connector.

Disconnect the SD reader ribbon
1 minSlide the flexible ribbon cable out of the unlocked ZIF socket on the motherboard.

Unscrew the SD card reader
2 minRemove the two Phillips #00 screws securing the SD card reader board to the inner frame.

Remove the old SD card reader
1 minLift the faulty SD card reader assembly straight up and out of the console.

Position the new SD card reader
2 minPlace the replacement SD card reader board onto the mounting posts inside the frame.

Secure the new SD card reader
2 minReinstall the two Phillips #00 screws to firmly fasten the new board in place.
