Step-by-step
- 1
Power Off the Console
1 minPress and hold the power button until the screen shuts off completely. Close the flip screen to protect the displays.

Remove Stylus and SD Card
1 minPull the stylus out from its slot on the side of the console. Press the SD card inward until it clicks, then release and remove it.

Loosen Back Cover Screws
2 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to loosen the two captive screws along the top edge of the rear cover. These screws are designed to stay attached to the cover.

Pry Off Lower Back Cover
2 minInsert a plastic spudger into the pry notches near the top corners of the battery cover. Pry gently upward to release the cover and remove it.

Remove the Battery
1 minInsert a plastic opening tool into the notch at the bottom of the battery. Lift the battery up and remove it from the console.

Remove Lower Case Screws
3 minRemove the six exposed Phillips #00 screws securing the lower outer housing to the body. Note screw locations for reassembly.

Lift the Lower Housing
2 minGently lift the lower housing from the bottom edge, opening it slightly like a clamshell. Do not pull it away completely yet.

Disconnect Shoulder Button Ribbons
3 minUse precision tweezers or a spudger to carefully unplug the left and right shoulder button ribbon cables from the motherboard. Set the housing aside.

Remove Card Slot Shield Screws
3 minUnscrew the small Phillips #00 screws holding the metal bracket over the Game Card reader assembly. Remove the metal bracket.

Desolder Old Card Reader
10 minApply flux and use a soldering iron with desoldering wick to clear solder from the anchor lugs and contact pins. Carefully lift the reader off the board.

Clean Motherboard Solder Pads
3 minApply high-purity isopropyl alcohol to a cotton swab and clean remaining flux and debris from the solder pads. Verify no shorting bridges exist.

Solder New Card Reader
10 minAlign the replacement Game Card reader precisely onto the motherboard pads. Apply flux and solder each pin and ground anchor securely.

Reconnect Shoulder Button Ribbons
4 minHold the lower housing close to the board and snap the shoulder button ribbon connectors back onto their sockets.

Reassemble Outer Case and Battery
5 minAlign the lower housing and tighten its screws, reinsert the battery, and snap the back cover in place before tightening its captive screws.
